Sexy Movies That Inspire

~ The Lover, L'armant, Jean-Jacques Annaud, VERY sexy, sad movie about an impossible love.

~ Belle De Jour (1967) – A repressed Parisian housewife acts out her fantasies by becoming a high-class prostitute

~ Dangerous Liaisons (1988) – A rich, bored aristocrats in Rococo France play a high-stakes game of passion and betrayal
~ The Dreamers (2003) – Cult classic about a young American studying in Paris who falls in love with a French brother and sister against the background of the 1968 Paris riots
~ Eyes Wide Shut (1999) – Kubrick’s controversial sexual thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise
~ High Art (1998) – A young female magazine intern and a 40-something lesbian drug addict photographer become sexually involved, exploit each other to get ahead in their careers and slowly fall in love.
~ In the Mood for Love (2000) – A man and woman move to neighbouring Hong Kong apartments and begin a steamy affair after they suspect their spouses of doing the same.
~ In the Realm of the Senses (1976) – This graphic portrayal of insatiable sexual desire by Japanese director Nagisa Oshima remains one of the most controversial films of all time and is still banned in Japan.
~ Last Tango in Paris (1973) – A classic starring Marlon Brando in his heyday, romancing women with tango dancing and butter in this raw portrayal of sexual violence
~ 9 1/2 Weeks (1986) – Though cliché, this story of an impersonal, erotic romance between an art gallerist (Kim Basinger) and a stranger (Mickey Rourke) was a smash hit in the 80s and defined sex for a generation.
~ Secretary (2002) – A young woman (Maggie Gyllenhaal in the role that made her a star), a former mental patient turned secretary, develops a sadomasochistic relationship with her demanding boss (James Spader).
~ Shortbus (2006) – John Cameron Mitchell’s joyous romp about an underground New York City salon famous for its blend of art, music, politics, carnality and its colourful cast of characters
~ Swept Away (1974) – A sophisticated and romantic tale of a rich woman and poor Italian sailor who are marooned on a desert island for one night

Classic Literature

~ Delta of Venus, Anais Nin – Nin, arguably the most famous female erotic writer of the 20th century, wrote the short stories that make up this anthology for a “collector” who commissioned her to produce graphic, erotic content which she coloured with her distinctly feminine viewpoint.
~ Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov – A classic and one of the most discussed books of 20th century literature, Lolita is famous for its innovative writing style and infamous for its controversial subject—narrator/protagonist Humbert Humbert’s obsession and sexual involvement with a 12-year-old girl.
~ Lady Chatterley’s Lover, D.H. Lawrence – A scandalous book when it was first published in 1928 for its inclusion of previously banned four-letter words, explicit sex scenes and violation of class boundaries, Lady Chatterley’s Lover is the erotic tale of an aristocratic English woman and her working class lover.
~ The Lover, Marguerite Duras – Autobiographical tale of a young white girl and her affair with an elder Chinese businessman, against the backdrop of French colonial Vietnam.
