Preparing for Your Session
Allow yourself to concentrate on the photo session by not scheduling too many appointments on the day of your shoot.
Drink plenty of water and eat a light snack before the shoot.
Black and white loves texture. Think shiny, sheer, lacy, knitted, draping, flowing, details. Too neat and nice or stylized and perfect can easily come across as too stiff and boring. Matching isn't necessary. Choose outfits of solid colors without logos or pyschedelic patterns, unless that is the effect you are after. Light and darker colors are best, but not limited to black and white. If in doubt, just bring what you have and we can decide while we are shooting.
If we are making semi-nude photographs don't wear anything with elastic such as underwear,
bra or socks on the day of the shoot so that no marks will appear in the photos.
You may play with the props and fanciful costumes I make available, but I encourage you to bring personal accoutrements as well.
Make-up to accentuate your features and jewelry are great, though lots of both can be distracting.
If you're comfortable doing your own makeup, and don't need to cover up anything or don't want a particular style you can't do yourself, you may not need professional make up done - let's decide once we've talked about style and ideas.
If you are a bride and don't want to make your wedding dress dirty, find a used one at a thrift store or use the one I have.
Sometimes clients ask if they may bring a friend. Certainly, unless that friend will be distracting for the two of us getting into a creative flow together, or make you feel inhibited in terms of trying new things and expressing yourself. We don't want you giggling on all the pictures. What ever you decide is fine with us. The most important thing is that you are feeling free to explore and express different and new sides of yourself.
For newborns, schedule the shoot time depending on the baby's mood and feeding schedule. Bring the child's favorite toys for distraction/entertainment, towels or blankets to lay on as well as a couple of solid colored outfits.
Champagne and chocolate will be served when appropriate and last minute panic calls are welcome.
Outdoor sessions
If we decide to photograph you outside, early mornings (6:30 - 8am) and late afternoons (4 - 6 pm) offers the best light. Don't get discouraged by overcast weather, the light is very soft and flattering, however, do bear in mind that the weather gods are unpredictable and we might have to reschedule.
